![]() Double hits (or triples (or more)) How to play Rhythm Doctor The (very) basic.A full version backed on Kickstarter titled Friday Night Funkin': The Full Ass Game is under development. The game was initially created for the Ludum Dare 47 game jam in October 2020. Gameplay revolves around hitting notes with timed inputs while avoiding running out of health for the duration of the song. The game mainly revolves around the player character, Boyfriend, who must defeat a variety of characters in singing and rapping contests in order to continue dating his love interest, Girlfriend. The game has been credited with driving users back to Newgrounds, a site whose popularity peaked in the early 2000s. The game shares some gameplay features with Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper and borrows aesthetic influences from Flash games. The game was developed by a team of four Newgrounds users, Cameron "ninjamuffin99" Taylor, David "PhantomArcade" Brown, Isaac "Kawai Sprite" Garcia, and evilsk8r. HOWEVER, besides that, it's really fun to play and this is definitely one of the best rhythm games I've played in a long time.įriday Night Funkin' (stylized as FRIDAY NIGHT FUNKIN' and often abbreviated to FNF) is an open-source donationware rhythm game first released in 2020 for a game jam. It's a good challenge but in this game it feels like a complete assault on my senses. Like oh my god I'm normally good at this stuff but that final boss? That really kicked my ass. MAYBE make some of the levels easier because this is SO HARD. I wouldn't mind it but the game uses it very excessively and VERY early on in the game, that would have been better for the later levels because the game's already hard enough as is. You have to bounce multiple rhythms at once and sometimes you can't even process them being there because there's so much happening on your screen. and it's not like the visuals help either. ![]() There are cues, but they're not like cues in Rhythm Heaven, for example, no, the cues in this game are USELESS. I mean, I know there are tutorials but a lot of the time I found it easier to go into something know I'd fail it just so I could beat it the second round. And it's annoying.įinal thing, holy fuuuuck this game is hard. Lyrics would have been best saved for the credits song where it's more intimate and things are concluding. It makes the songs kinda sound amateur and unprofessional in a way compared to the stuff early on which is ACTUALLY bussin. I understand the developers might want to give singers a voice, but I don't think it works here. Well, I wanted more Bussin and more Slammin ass electronic songs and such and instead. Either way, the dialogue and stuff was a little cheesy, I'm not gonna lie. Anyway beyond that I wish there was a way to skip the dialogue more often, it happens sometimes in the game but it's inconsistent in the times when you can do so. Sure it's unfortunate but that is what you sign up for in the medical industry sadly. It's more "overworking bad" and "politician bad" but I'd like the game to actually have some balls and go into the idea more since there are many things you can critique about the field, whether it be the culture behind it, the expectations, etc. But I don't think the game really pushes the idea far enough and delves into it in a really nuanced way. As someone who has worked in this field for some time, I could relate. I also thought this game was trying to discuss the dark side of the medical industry. I thought it was too in the way when I was trying to play. I wasn't too crazy about the storyline in this game nor the themes and dialogue and such, really. The creativity in this game is like nothing I've ever seen in a game of this genre, like holy shit by the third level I was already like ? How does anyone think of, heck, how does anyone even MAKE something this cool? For a rhythm game there's a lot, but obviously it's not without its faults. ![]() For the bosses and stuff, though? Holy shit this game looks fucking amazing. Everything looks nice from the sprites to the background to the level changes, though I think a lot of the smaller levels are a little too mundane. Since it's early access, maybe it'll help the developers to read this message. There's a lot of good to this game, but a few bad things. Oh well, I'm sure some will appreciate it. Shame that my setup is the way it is because the area 2 boss didn't really work for me the first time around. Really good Rhythm game that I would probably suggest to all rhythm game fans.
